New to Sharing Your Life Story In Business?Here are Five Tips to Getting Started.

Are you new to sharing your Life Story in business?  Maybe you have seen others sharing

parts of their Life Story,but have no clue on where to begin.

If you haven’t placed importance on sharing your Life Story in your business,

then it should be on your “to do” list for 2019.

I am going to share five tips you can use to incorporate your

Life Story into your business, because there are

countless reasons that make it important for your business going into the future.

If you want to stand out and catch the attention of your clients in a crowded,

distracted, and overstimulated world, then the most effective way to do that,

according to marketing experts,

is to appeal to your clients emotions so they remember you.

One of the best ways to do that, is by sharing parts of your story.

 …. leaders who can create and share good stories have a powerful advantage over others.

Story-telling experts say that every time you share “your story” or

“a story,” it should begin by asking,

“Who is my audience and what is the message I want to share with them?”

In other words, what is the ultimate message you wish to convey?

Once you nail that down, you can figure out how to use your story to illustrate it.

Stories are the original viral tool.  Based on people remembering a story, “the returns could last for months and even years.”

What key and memorable events  in your own lifemake YOU believe in the idea or selling point you are trying to share?  For instance,

let’s say you are a Life Coach, and you

want to sell the idea that working with you will help them move

forward in life.

You could share a time in your life when you felt stuck

and how a certain life coach, professor or pastor gave you the

encouragement and tools you needed to get the ball rolling again.

This brings up another strategy of incorporating your Life Story…

showing your vulnerability and how you overcame in a situation

or struggle, makes you more personal.  People want to know how you

overcame a struggle, so maybe they can too!

Sharing your personal Life Story can be scary, but it’s worth the risk.  The ones who want to stay are the ones who matter.

People in the tribe you are building want to be part of your journey, your story…

Highlighting a struggle or challenge, aka, conflict, can get their attention

by appealing to their emotions.  The story-telling experts say not to make

yourself the super hero, but focus more on the lessons learned or by

using people in your Life Story as the true heroes.

Knowing how to share parts of your Life Story

is key to retaining your audience.  I have personally noticed a trend on social Media to ramble

on and on when most people will not remember anything except

the emotional,educational, or entertainment value of what was being

said. If you are not selling shoes, then writing about the color of your shoes won’t be remembered!

What they will remember

is when you share how you felt or the expressions on someones face.

Less detail on unimportant things will

ultimately mean less rambling, which your tribe won’t remember anyway!

Don’t assume you do not have anything to share from

your Life Story.  With some question prompts, you can be well on your way to

bringing your Life Story to your clients and tribe by jogging your memory

How You Can Help People You know Recover Following A Traumatic Event

It seems like every time you turn on the news these days that some traumatic event

flashes before your eyes leaving images and impressions

of helplessness to the viewer. Even harder is when a trauma touches your community or someone you

know.

There are ways you can help others recover from a traumatic event,

even if you do not have a backround in trauma management.  Do you know someone personally

that has just experienced a major trauma such as a natural disaster, accident, or  maybe a

victim of

a violent act?

Most of us want to help the people we know and love, but don’t know how.

We feel awkward on what to say to others that will show we care but we truely want to

help them in the recovery process

after they have experienced a traumatic life

event.

Recently, the community I live in has experienced two devastating

natural disasters that has cost several their lives.

These disasters left behind many who experienced firsthand

a traumatic life event that will take

a huge amount of ongoing support from those they love and know

in order to recover.

Many people have expressed how much they themselves

are traumatized by the events they have seen or heard about

on the news or through friends.

There  are ways you can help people recover  or if you want to know how to reach out

to friends, loved ones, or even strangers following a traumatic event such as a natural disaster.

First, you need to realize that recovery is a process and may play out in a

persons life over a long period of time.

Recovery is also different for each person.  This means that ongoing support and understanding are vital if you really want to help.

Helping others establish a normal routine is a crucia lfirst step to beginning the recovery process.

 

Practical support could be as simple as taking care of children for a few hours

 

or even grocery shopping and running errands can help when life becomes suddenly hard and overwhelming.

 

Encourage those in the recovery process to take time for self care such as

eating healthy,

exercise,

and time for complete relaxation.

 

Help others minimize repeated exposure to the trauma

through media coverage that makes a person often relive

the experience over and over.

Instead, track important information for them by using local government websites.

 

You can provide much needed emotional support without having to know what to say by being a good listener

or just providing the comfort of being there.

Forcing someone to talk about the event before they are ready, is never helpful.

 

When someone is ready to talk about the trauma they have witness or experienced, it may be helpful

to do the following…..

Reassure them that distress is to be expected after what they have experienced…Validation is key….

 

Listen more than give advice.

Avoid cliche statements like, “You will be fine,” or “Everything works out for the good.”  Although

this may be true, it is not comforting for someone recovering from a major trauma.

 

Acknowledge and validate their distress instead with statements like, “It’s really tough to go through something

like this,” or “I am really sorry you have to go through this.”  You can also say things like, “This is such a rough time for you, how are you doing?”

 

If the person you know, after a long period of time following the

traumatic event

continues to feel sad or numbed,

shut down or distant,

has a lack of energy,

increased irritibility,

or suicidal, and other non coping symptoms,

make sure you help them find or encourage them to seek professional help

from a licensed Medical Provider or Counselor.

 

You can be a great help to those who are recovering from a traumatic event,

it just takes plenty of love, comfort, and support.

Top Health Tips During and After Wildland Fires

The top health tip for anyone living near a wild land fire during or after the incident, according to Kaiser, is centered around

your respiratory systems.  Protecting your water and food supplies is also at the top of the list.

Here are some top health tips to keep in mind if you are living near a major wild land fire.

  • Smoke particles and ash affect air quality which can cause breathing difficulties.  If you can see or smell smoke, avoid all outdoor physical activities.
  • Keep all doors and windows closed
  • Use fans to circulate air inside the house.
  • If you have central air conditioning, turn it on.  If you are using a window airconditioning unit, make sure the filter is clean.
  • For people with Asthma or any other Respiratory condition, make sure to use your quick relief inhalers and controlled steroid inhalers as prescribed.  Call 911 if severe shortness of breath or call your MD if symptoms worsen.
  • Healthy individuals may experience scratchy throat, watery eyes, coughing, chest pain, headaches, and runny nose.  Contact your MD or local pharmacist to treat the symptoms.  Call 911 if you have any symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, or when in doubt.
  • If you must work outdoors wear a Niosh certified respirator face mask. (Dust mask)  Surgical face masks will not protect you from smoke particles.
  • Keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Do not use any water or food that is contaminated in any way by smoke and ash.
  • The best tip is to stay indoors as much as possible and seek medical attention if your symptoms worsen.
  • Do not forget about your pets!  Keep them indoors when possible and make sure their drinking water is clean.
  • If you need to return to your home after a fire incident, always wear a dust mask and gloves when being exposed to ash.

Five Easy Things To Do To Live A More Eco-friendly Life

Are you concerned about our planets future and what we will leave behind for future generations?  I, for one, love the outdoors, and enjoy living in a clean healthy environment, don’t you?  People, in general,  have come along way in

embracing a more eco-conscious lifestyle, but I think we can do better.  If we can adapt some new ways of thinking, then collectively, we can make a big difference in not only our lives, but the lives of our children’s children.

Here are five things you can do fairly easily to decrease your carbon footprint, and live in a more eco-conscious manner.

  1.  Never buy items impulsively.  This will avoid purchasing things that you really do not need, and you will save money!  Wait at least 24 hours to see if it is something you just want, adding to clutter and waste.
  2. Recycle everything you can!  The obvious ones are plastic, glass, and cardboard, but what about reuse or re-purposing of furniture?  Donate to a local charity so the item does not end up in a landfill.
  3. Replace chemical household cleaners with biodegradable or eco equivalents.  These are more earth and ocean friendly.  Many can be made at home with a few ingredients. See below for some free DIY Concoctions!
  4. Support local organic farmers.  Pesticides from non organically grown food wind up in our oceans and waterways! Bad for fish and humans!
  5. Buy reusable bags instead of using plastic bags when you grocery shop.

Make some DIY House Cleaners!  See the recipes below!

Top Ingredients For A Green Cleaners Pantry

Baking soda

White Vinegar

Hydrogen peroxide

Borax

Essential oils(lemon grass, lavender, and teatree oils)

Fresh herbs and Citrus peels

Grapefruit

Coarse Kosher Salt

Olive oil

Water

Bathtub Cleanser

One Grapefruit cut in half

1/4 Cup Coarse Kosher Salt

Sprinkle the top half of the halved grapefruit liberally with salt.  wet the surface to be cleaned and start

scrubbing!  Infuse the scent and action of the grapefruit by squeezing throughout the process.

All Purpose Cleaner

Spray Bottle

1/2 Cup White vinegar

2 Tbsp. Baking Soda

Water

Essential Oil 2-3 drops(Your choice)

Combine all the ingredients and use on most surfaces.  Always keep cleaners out of reach from children or locked.

5 Ways to Get Through the Holidays After A Loss

The Holiday Season can be rough if you or someone you know is suffering the recent loss of a loved one or something that is important to them.  Getting through the holidays will take some loving care and compassion for yourself or give understanding towards others you may know.

Although the stages of grief following a loss are fairly universal, it can express itself in different ways.  There is no right or wrong way to grieve any kind of loss.  Each person is unique and will deal with it in any array of emotions.

When I was suffering from the loss of someone who was a big part of my life,  I would be talking to a friend and suddenly burst into tears.  At other times, I felt depressed, with little energy.  Allow yourself the room and grace to grieve however you need to.  It is a process.girl-984065_1920

I would like to share some ways that might help you during this season where everything seems to be the opposite of what you are going through inside.

These are adapted from the Harvard Mental Health Letter.

Express Your needs.  If you are not up to attending a Christmas Party put on by Aunt Sara every year, just let her know you are going to stay home this year.  Join in when you can.  Others should understand.

Start a new tradition. You can place a lit candle on the dinner table, leave an empty chair, or have someone say a few words of remembrance.  Purchase a special ornament in the persons honor to place on the tree.

Change the celebration.  If you normally do a huge Christmas Eve Party, maybe pass the baton on to another family member or you can go to a restaurant, to ease the transition time of home celebrations.

Volunteer or help someone else.  Make a donation to a favorite cause or charity in memory of  the person who you lost or serve meals at a local shelter.

Give yourself the gift of time. clock-1702512_1920 The grieving process does not necessarily conclude at a six month or one year mark.  There can be comfort in different places at different times.  People who love you can be your support and strength during the difficult moments.  Grief does usually soften and change and with some time the holidays will become easier to handle.

Ten Things You Should Do For A Loved One Who Is In The Hospital

Some things in life are unplanned, especially when it comes to being sick and then hospitalized.

When someone you love is admitted to the hospital, even for a planned surgery,  there are certain things that you can do to make it better

for them. Even if you are not faced with this right now,

it is good to be informed, so you can have the best possible

outcome for your loved one.

Recently, this happened in my family.

A trip to the emergency room with my nineteen year old son, turned into a three week long

hospital stay.

There are things that you can do

for your loved one that will help them while they are in the hospital

in the recovery process.

Having a backround as a Registered Nurse,

I know how hospitals function, so from a professional, as well as, from a caregivers side,

this information will be invaluable to you.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes

that you may not be aware of,

and being somewhat flexible can help keep you and your loved one stay sane.

Although you may not have the same  controls as you do at home, you can still have a say

in the care your loved one receives.  So….my number one tip,

ASK QUESTIONS!  The olden days are gone where Doctors were treated like Gods.

No disrespect needed, but you are paying THEM for a service, and it is your absolute right to
ASK AWAY!  You may or may not get the answers right then that you need,

but most Doctors are willing to give answers.  Even as a trained medical professional,

I never pretend to know it all and need answers as a caregiver.

Knowing the What and Why can be beneficial since you will probably be near your loved one the most during

a hospital stay, and on many occasions, help in the recovery process.  So,

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!!

At one point, I knew I would not be around when the Doctor made the daily rounds,

so I left a list of questions.

You can also call them.  Nurses are also a great resource, and can usually answer any questions you might have.

Hospital staff are frequently overloaded,

and your presence really makes a difference.  You act as an advocate to your loved one,

who may be unable to have a say. Be prepared to hear beeping machines!

Hospitals are actually very stimulating and noisy places to be, so

promoting a restful environment can happen more by posting a sign on the door and holding phone calls at intervals.

Take turns with other family members and friends.  At the first possible chance,

bring comforting items from home.  I brought several pillows with our own pillowcases

and some super cozy blankets.  Being in the hospital can be scary and lonely,

and things that are familiar

bring a lot of peace. My son used them the entire stay!

A trip to the gift shop at the hospital produced a soft Teddy Bear the size of a pillow,

and you bet he donned a baseball cap from my sons favorite football team.

He hung out in the hospital room the entire stay!

Okay, I hear ya, my son is nineteen years old, but never underestimate a soft snugly stuffed animal!

Definitely visit the gift shop for that one of a kind gift.  A card, balloon, books, or magazines, and even flowers and plants are available

when a trip to a store is not feasible.

As a side note, if you are far away from someone you love that is in the hospital,

most gift shops will let you purchase items over the phone and deliver to the room.

Although the hospital supplies the basics such as toothbrush, lotion, etc..

your own personal items,

well…there’s nothing like it. Do not forget deodorant!

You might want to add some socks, slippers(non slippery), shorts, loose t-shirts, and robe.

I am sure you have seen the beautiful gowns they give

you in the hospital!?  Not!!

Once the get well cards start rolling in,

tape them to the wall over the hospital bed and in a place visible to

your loved one.

This will ensure that the hospital staff will see

that their patient is an actual person, and someone highly cherished.

It will also remind your loved one that they are, as well!

Most hospital stays are very short, but

even a few days can be monotonous and boring.

Be a motivator to get your loved one in recovery mode as soon as possible!

Once they are able to sit in a chair, and go for a walk,

facilitate it!  Like I said, hospital staff are busy,

so anything you can do is great!  The sooner a person gets moving, the better for their

recovery process.

Something else you can do to help beat the boredom

and give hope for the future,

is start a Vision Board.  Get some magazines of interest and bring scissors, poster board, and glue.

This is a common practice for dreamers and

entrepreneurs, and anyone that wants to be

successful.

Great way to promote recovery!  Another tip,

bring in a blank Journal and Daily Devotion or Quote Book.

If they are unable to read or write, you can read something inspirational to them.

 

One last thing, you have seen the adult coloring books out there, right?

A friend of mine bought me one, and it was filled with

inspirational quotes.  I left it in the room so everyone who came for a visit

could color one and then pin it up

with the cards!

Something else to keep in

mind is taking care of yourself, the caregiver.  The road to recovery is different
